YouTube Premium Will Give Less Exclusive Benefits

For a while, you can enjoy exclusive benefits when you purchase a YouTube Premium subscription. These benefits will become less exclusive from 2020 onwards.

Currently, you can view certain series and movies on YouTube only if you have YouTube Premium. This subscription costs you €11.99 (approx. N5,000 naira) per month and gives you access to exclusive series and films produced by the company itself, the so-called YouTube Originals. On top of that, the entire platform becomes ad-free and you get access to YouTube Music, which is similar to Spotify.

However, YouTube has now decided to make some of these benefits less exclusive by 2020. Viewers without a subscription currently have no access to the YouTube Originals at all. From 2020, certain shows and films will be accessible to everyone as long as they can handle some ads that will appear when they watch.

Unfortunately, nothing can be said about the current success of YouTube Premium, which is now available in 29 countries. The company has not yet said a single word about subscriber figures either at the global level or for certain countries in particular.

YouTube itself says that this strategy is a way to improve overall satisfaction among its users and to make them happy for the Originals content. Advertisers would also be interested in advertising with specific content. This move also gives the company more flexibility in marketing strategies.
